Resolve To Save Energy This Year!

What are your New Year’s Resolutions? It’s that time again to make your list and decide how January is the start of how you’ll save money beginning now, 2014. Although, it seems that most New Year’s

HHResolutions are abandoned sometime around mid-February, in spite of our best intentions. But it doesn’t have to be that way, we are committed to show you a few easy, safe and affordable transformations that will ensure you staying on track with this years goal and how easily it can be met.

At Timan Custom Window Treatments we want to help you make this a priority! We have a few simple remedies that will not only help to save you money but, transform your home into a stunning retreat. According to the “Department of Energy”, whose mission ” Is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and Technology solutions”, a few to address are your doors and windows.

HdFor your doors, proper weather stripping is key.. If you have a newer home, replacing is quite easy and if you’re building consider an energy efficient door and during this process it’s always a good idea to refer to the energy performance ratings . Older homes, you may need to replace your door. 30% of energy loss is contributed by doors… Being subject to the elements there are different types of heat loss: conduction, infiltration and radiation.

H6     If you choose to purchase a door there are a few things to consider. Storm doors are very efficient and when installed properly, protect well against wind and rain. Insulated doors are good for those who do not see storm doors as an option. Newer versions of the insulated door are usually made of foam and wood covered with metal. Door frames are usually made of wood, dressed with metal or vinyl. Glass doors release a great deal of heat and should not be used unless necessary. If necessary, double paned low emissive glass should be used. H7

For your windows.. You can choose window treatments or coverings not only for decoration but also for saving energy. Some carefully selected window treatments can reduce heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. Window treatments, however, aren’t effective at reducing air leakage or infiltration. You need to caulk and weatherstrip around windows to reduce air leakage. This where Timan Custom Window Treatments enter the equation of savings and beautifully enhancing your home.
