Between colors, textures, dimensions, and features, you can completely personalize your window coverings—and atmosphere. Take a look at your options.
Fabric Window Treatments
Soft treatments are window coverings made out of fabrics. There are various soft treatment options, including drapery, that are completely customizable. First choose the type of window covering you like–take a look at our 9 different types of window treatment options for help. Then, decide what color and fabric works best for your home.
Fabric Types
It can feel overwhelming when you first start searching for window coverings. Let us break down the different fabric options:
Sheer Fabrics: This fabric allows you to see through the window while diffusing the incoming light. Sheer fabrics are available in both horizontal and vertical shades.
Woven Fabrics: If you like dimension and weaves, this one is for you! Woven fabrics can be wood, bamboo, cloth, and other natural fibers. They’re woven together, creating a dimensional, natural design.
Patterns, Prints, and Solids: These fabrics do a great job of protecting privacy and blocking out light completely. (Think: bedroom window treatments.) With so many options, you can create a stunning backdrop that matches your interior design.
Opacity
This is yet another way to customize your window treatments. Opacity tells you how much light comes through the fabric compared to how much is blocked. We use terms like “light filtering” and “room darkening” when we discuss opacity. Our number system is easy to understand: 0% means the fabric is a very sheer view-through, and 100% refers to complete light blocking.
Operating Features
This may take some consideration! Do you like your window treatments to stack or roll? What about having the fabrics lined or unlined? You can even use a dual shade system. Insulation is another consideration. There are so many options—don’t worry if you’re unsure. Our team is here to help.
Hard Window Treatments
Hard window treatments include wood, vinyl, metal, and composites. Often referred to as “the furniture of the window,” they can make a stunning style statement while providing light and privacy control.
Materials and Sizing
When considering what material you want for your window treatments, think about durability and longevity. Timan Window Treatments has a variety of options, including real wood shutters and blinds, metal blinds, vinyl shutters, and composite materials—both natural and man-made options. Hard treatments have moving parts. Window blinds have slats, and shutters have louvers. These are then adjusted to allow light to enter, to block out light, or to adjust privacy.
The Finishes
This is where longevity comes into play. It’s important to choose a finish that will last. Ask about warranties and guarantees against warping, cracking, and yellowing. We take pride in knowing Hunter Douglas treatments are treated with exclusive finishes that will withstand the elements.
Operating Features.
Traditionally, hard window treatment options are controlled manually. Blind slats can be adjusted using a wand. Shutter louvers are easily adjusted by hand. Some shutters have a tilt bar. Today, there are ways to use automation for adjustments. Automatic blinds adjust the tilt of the slats, and the Palm Beach collection of shutters is available with motorization of the louvers.
Style with Layers
Window treatments are made to protect your privacy and provide light control, but that doesn’t mean they can’t make a statement. Layering window treatments will bring the design to the next level. Consider framing your windows with drapery. Take a look at how you can pair shades with drapery.
