Drapery Fabrics

When you choose custom made curtains, you begin the journey of creating a look you really love. Our designers have thousands of fabric samples at their fingertips, from all the top brands, like Robert Allen, Kravet, Fabricut, ADO, Carole Fabrics and Maxwell, just to mention a few. You can choose to feature the softness of sheers and linens, or the sophistication of jacquard and velvet. The patterns, colors and textures you choose will bring the look to life and personalize your home with unique design. Choosing custom curtains is really the only way to get *exactly* what you want, and you deserve it. The density and liners of the drapery fabrics also play a key role in achieving results–from blackout curtains to thermal drapes. Our experts are happy to help guide you.

The Details of Custom Drapery

The perfect finish for your custom made curtains? The hardware, of course! Metallic decor is full of long-lasting appeal, adding quite a distinct finish to your space. Ideal for creating a finished look at the top of your windows, the drapery rods and finials create a resting place for the type of header style you’ve chosen.

Drapery Hardware

You’ll want the drapery hardware you choose to coordinate with other design elements in your home. That doesn’t always mean they have to “match.” Your window covering specialist will be happy to guide you to the right finishes to create a designer look. We offer a range of finishes:

  • Matte Black
  • Gold
  • Oil-rubbed Bronze
  • Natural Brass
  • Brushed Nickel

Not only will the curtain rods come in the finish of your choice, but the additional drapery hardware will accent the look, helping attach your drapes to the rod properly. This hardware could include curtain tiebacks, drapery rings, clips or hooks. This is determined by the header style you choose for the top of the drapes.

The Header Style

When it comes to customizing drapery, the top plays an important role. This is called the header style, and it defines the technique with which your draperies are finished and attach to the drapery rod. If you’ve seen ideas that you love, please share! That helps us narrow down the styles and bring your vision to life. Here’s a quick look at the top three styles:

  • Pinch Pleat describes the technique of creating folds of fabric, then sewing them together for the desired finish. This can be done with multiple layers of fabric, for a variety of pleated styles. Pinch pleated drapes offer an elegant appearance, attaching to the ccurtain rod with clips or drapery rings.
  • Grommets are metal rings that are affixed to the fabric, all along the top. The inside of the grommets is an open space, allowing the drapery rod to slide through. This is a well-known type of header style. The metal finish of the grommets should match the other drapery hardware being used.
  • Ripple Fold Drapery offers consistent, rounded fabric curves along the top of the drapery. These drapes traverse to the side, connected to a specialty track. This type of drapery is similar to our Hunter Douglas Luminette collection.

Layering Shades and Curtains

One of the most sought-after style statements at the window combines a base window covering (such as shades or blinds) with custom drapery to frame the look. This layering effect not only styles the window, but it is highly successful at solving any light control and privacy challenges you might be facing. Side drapery panels can bring a splash of color or layered sophistication, while covering gaps that you might experience from the shades and blinds currently on your windows.
